Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is developed after a person goes through a terrifying experience. Events like accidents, abuse, disasters, and military combat can trigger this disorder. These triggers can result in the person to have psychological trauma. This can cause people to feel frightened when reminded by the ordeal, even when no danger is present. 7-8% of people in the US can develop PTSD.

It is natural for people to have some of these symptoms after a traumatic experience but when it last longer than a couple of weeks and is becoming a problem in your day to day life it is PTSD. People develop this disorder at different times. It can began immediately after the event occurs or even years later.

Treatment

Therapy and or medication is the usual treatment for PTSD. Joining a support group or just talking to friends or family can also be helpful.

Medicines like Zoloft and Prozac that help treat depression can also treat PTSD.

Every person is different so talk to your doctor to find out what treatment is best for you.

It is very important to seek treatment. When left untreated it can cause relationship problems and can even lead to suicide.

You know what you're talking about. PTSD is one of the most misunderstood mental disorders known to man. Yet it can be treated with therapy and medication. You are absolutely correct in your statement that PTSD can begin immediately after the event occurs, or years later. Even though most people associate PTSD with a physical event, it can also develop after a mental event. Good job;good luck.

It's important that everyone is educated about PTSD because you never know who may be battling it.

simple and to the point. that i what this hub is about. that's what PTSD should be about. i am a survivor of an assault incident and i dealt with PTSD. thankfully, i was already cleared 3-4 months from the incident. i owe my recovery to medication, family support and stress-free life.
